error message appears when connecting iPhone/iPod Touch

The iPod Touch and iPhone require drivers to be installed in order for Windows to recognize such devices.

These drivers are installed by iTunes and QuickTime. You probably get this error because the drivers are incorrectly installed on your PC.

This process will make sure the drivers are correctly installed:

IMPORTANT: Unplug your device
Uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support and QuickTimecompletely
Reboot your computer
Install iTunes (reboot if prompted to do so), and complete the startup wizard
IMPORTANT: Keep your device unplugged
Close all programs that are likely to connect to your iPhone or iPod Touch
Launch the product you would like to use
Make sure your iPhone or iPod Touch is turned on and well charged
Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to your PC and try again
Advanced users who do not wish to install iTunes can refer to these instructions.

The following tips can also help if your iPhone/iPod Touch is still not recognized:

Do not use a USB hub. Please connect your iPhone or iPod Touch directly
to your computer and try a different USB cable if available.
Make sure that you have correctly entered the pin code and deactivated the device autolock feature.
Add CopyTrans to the “Allowed applications” list in your Firewall settings.
Make sure you are using the latest version of our products.
If none of the above hints help, you may want to check that your iPhone or iPod Touch is recognized by another computer (make sure not to sync with any iTunes installation on that other computer)
